GTA V, one of the most played games on the Steam Deck, has now been marked as "unsupported."
Grand Theft Auto V, which consistently ranked among the top ten most-played games on Valve’s Steam Deck in recent weeks and remained in the top twenty for the past two years, is now labeled as “unsupported.” This change comes after developer Rockstar unexpectedly broke compatibility for the game’s online modes on Valve’s handheld, though the reasons behind the move remain unclear.
As seen in the image above, this marks the latest clash involving Linux-based anti-cheat measures. Like Fortnite and Roblox developers, Rockstar has chosen not to support the Steam Deck with its new anti-cheat system for GTA Online — a much-needed solution for the game's persistent cheater issues. (Outside of the Steam Deck, improving anti-cheat measures was likely a beneficial step.)
However, unlike Fortnite and Roblox, Rockstar isn’t just withholding multiplayer functionality from the Steam Deck; they are actively removing access for existing players, rather than never introducing it on the platform in the first place.
