God of War Ragnarök Faces Backlash on Steam Due to Sony's PC Login Requirement
God Of War Ragnarök, one of 2022's standout titles on PS5 and PS4, has made its debut on PC through Valve’s platform earlier this week, receiving praise for its visuals and performance. However, its Steam user review score has been far from impressive, as players are using the rating system to protest Sony’s PSN login requirement once again.
God of War Ragnarök now requires a PlayStation account to play, despite being an offline, single-player title. This means that anyone looking to dive into the atmospheric sequel to the 2018 Game of the Year must create and sign in with a PlayStation account before playing, even if they don’t own a PS5 and never intend to. This step is part of Sony’s broader effort to bring its PlayStation ecosystem to PC without launching a dedicated game client.
A significant portion of Steam users are unhappy with this requirement. God of War Ragnarök currently holds a 65 percent rating on Steam, with over 2,000 reviews, giving it the “mixed” label—marked by the dreaded yellow-orange font, usually reserved for games plagued by bugs or gameplay issues.
