Highly Anticipated Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Multiplayer Mod Canceled Just One Day Before Launch
Activision has reportedly issued a cease and desist letter to the developers behind the H2M Mod, a highly anticipated fan project aimed at recreating and remastering the online multiplayer experience of *Modern Warfare 2* for PC players.
The mod was built using *Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered*, which was released in 2016 and included both the original campaign and a revamped version of its popular multiplayer mode. However, when *Modern Warfare 2 Remastered* launched in 2020, it featured only the campaign, leaving out the beloved online multiplayer—a significant disappointment for many fans who consider MW2's multiplayer to be one of the best in the *Call of Duty* franchise.
In response, a group of fan modders took it upon themselves to recreate MW2's iconic online gameplay and maps within *CoD4: MW Remastered*. The H2M Mod was set to launch soon, but Activision allegedly intervened at the last minute, effectively shutting down the project.
The H2M Mod was set to offer over 50 maps, a complete *Modern Warfare 2* progression system, new attachments, gun camos, and the original killstreaks that made the classic FPS so iconic.
The news of the mod's cancellation has sparked significant backlash, especially since *Modern Warfare Remastered* had been on sale on Steam in the days leading up to the mod's planned release. Many players purchased the game at a discount, eagerly anticipating the launch of the mod, which led to *MW Remastered* becoming one of the top five best-selling games on Steam.
However, following the shutdown of the mod, players have taken to social media to express their frustration, with many choosing to return the game and downvote it on Steam. As a result, *Modern Warfare Remastered* currently holds a “mostly negative” review status on the platform.
