DJI Introduces a Powerful Car Charger for Its Portable Batteries
DJI has unveiled the Power 1kW Super Fast Car Charger, a high-performance car charger designed to power its large portable batteries and power stations. Priced at $299 / €269, this device can deliver up to 1000W of charging powerfrom your car’s alternator while the engine is running, making it a game-changer for on-the-go energy needs.
Key Features:
- High-Speed Charging: The charger can fully replenish the 1024Wh battery of the DJI Power 1000 power station in just over an hour at full power.
- Compatibility: Works seamlessly with DJI’s expanding ecosystem, including the Power 1000 and Power 2000 Expansion Batteries, which can be daisy-chained for up to 11kWh of stackable storage.
- Reverse Charging: Can be configured to reverse-charge the car’s battery, helping to prevent drain during prolonged usage.
- Installation: Comes with a 5m (16-foot 5-inch) fused cable for easy connection to your car’s battery.
Dongle Dependency:
By default, the Power 1kW is limited to 500W of charging output. To unlock its full 1000W capacity, users need the DJI Power Dongle, a $25 accessory. However, DJI is bundling this dongle as a free gift with new purchases of the charger (in the US market).
Market Context:
This release places DJI in direct competition with brands like EcoFlow and Bluetti. The 800W EcoFlow Alternator Charger and the 560W Bluetti AC500, while offering similar functionality, fall short of the DJI charger’s maximum output. However, unlike DJI’s proprietary system, Bluetti’s charger boasts universal compatibility across various solar generators and power stations.
Considerations:
While the Power 1kW is a robust solution for mobile professionals and adventurers, it relies on your vehicle having a high-capacity alternator capable of providing the necessary amps.
DJI’s latest innovation further strengthens its position in the energy solutions market, catering to users who require portable, high-capacity charging on the go. For those frequently working remotely or on extended trips, this new charger could become an essential piece of gear.
