Steam Sets New Record for Concurrent PC Players Online Once More
Steam has once again shattered its previous record for concurrent PC players, reaching an astonishing 38,366,479 users online simultaneously.
This milestone, achieved on September 22, 2024, surpasses last month's record by a million players, which was largely driven by the highly anticipated release of Black Myth: Wukong.
So, what contributed to Steam's latest peak? The usual top 10 titles were at the forefront, including Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Banana (still going strong), and PUBG. Additionally, this year’s releases like Black Myth: Wukong, Satisfactory 1.0, Space Marine 2, and Valve’s own Deadlock also helped boost numbers. PlayStation exclusives God of War Ragnarök and Final Fantasy 16, which debuted on Steam last week, added a further uptick in players.
Steam's popularity continues to grow as Valve further solidifies its dominance in the PC gaming market. While competitors like the Epic Games Store and CD Projekt's GOG hold smaller shares of the market, Steam consistently enjoys record-breaking success, even during times of perceived slowdowns in the video game industry. The addition of the Steam Deck has only expanded Steam's reach, providing yet another platform for its massive user base to engage with.
