Deadlock's Existence Finally Acknowledged by Valve With a Store Page and Official Announcement
Valve is finally set to unveil Deadlock, its not-so-secret multiplayer game that has quietly gained a significant following over the past few weeks.
Throughout August, Deadlock has steadily attracted attention and built a growing player base through an invite system, where current playtesters could invite their friends. This method allowed the game to quietly amass thousands of players, with over 18,000 concurrent players in mid-August, and peaking at more than 44,000 players earlier this week.
Despite the game being widely accessible to those connected with existing players, a splash screen at the start of *Deadlock* advised players to "not share anything about the game with anyone." However, many players disregarded this informal and non-binding request, leading to various gameplay videos surfacing on YouTube and at least one media article appearing on The Verge.
Because of these leaks, it’s been known for weeks that Deadlock is a 6v6 third-person hero shooter with a unique MOBA twist, featuring four lanes and waves of respawning troopers. Valve has emphasized that the game is still in "early development," meaning it contains a lot of temporary art and experimental gameplay. Now, Valve has officially lifted its request for silence, revealing the game’s official store page.
